08 Jun Finlay Foundation Awards $10,000 Matching Grant
MILFORD – The Finlay Foundation on Tuesday, June 8 proudly presented the UNH Institute on Disability with a $10,000 matching grant for its NH Leadership Series, which provides families and children with disabilities with invaluable advocacy and life skills. The Foundation this past spring had issued a challenge to the Institute, pledging to match any amount up to $10,000 that the Institute could raise at an April Leadership Series event. The Institute at that event – a reunion of previous classes and graduates – succeeded in raising more than $15,000 to assist with scholarships and educational programming.
Tuesday’s matching grant is in keeping with the Foundation’s continued focus on families and children in need and with an incentive-based approach to giving. This past spring, the Foundation issued six such challenges to local and statewide organizations totaling more than $51,000. The Institute on Disability was the first to successfully complete its challenge. Each year, the series provides leadership and advocacy training for 35 participants, creating a corps of mobilized parents and advocates who help to strengthen families and communities statewide.
